How to Decide Between Requested Apps and Custom Discovery
Updated 2026-04-25
Choose the right intake path when a new application enters onboarding.
One of the most common onboarding decisions is whether a new application should be handled as a requested standard app or as a custom discovery request.
Use Requested Apps when
Choose requested standard apps when:
- the app fits a known or standard supported model
- the team expects a normal onboarding path
- the application can be provisioned using the standard application workflow
Use Custom Discovery when
Choose custom discovery when:
- the app is unusual or customer-specific
- the onboarding path is unclear
- additional technical or operational review is needed
- the standard model does not fit the request
Simple rule of thumb
If the application is known and standard, start with requested apps.
If the application is unclear, unique, or requires design-level review, start with custom discovery.
Best practice
When uncertain, prefer custom discovery instead of forcing an unclear request into a standard path too early.
