How to Update an Onboarding Task Status

Updated 2026-04-25

Keep onboarding statuses accurate so teams know what is pending, active, completed, or blocked.

Onboarding task statuses help teams understand whether work is pending, active, completed, or blocked.

Who this is for

  • Onboarding
  • Org Admin
  • internal operators who manage onboarding tasks

Before you start

Review the current task status and confirm whether the next state accurately reflects reality.

Steps

1. Open the Onboarding Dashboard 2. Find the onboarding task you want to update 3. Select the appropriate new status 4. Confirm the change if required 5. Add a comment if the update needs context

Common statuses

Typical statuses may include:

  • pending
  • in progress
  • completed
  • blocked

When to use each status

Pending

Use when the task has not started yet.

In Progress

Use when active work is happening.

Completed

Use when the task is fully done and no additional action is needed.

Blocked

Use when work cannot continue because something else is missing or unresolved.

Best practice

Whenever a task becomes blocked, add a comment describing:

  • what is blocked
  • what is needed next
  • who may need to act
