Role-Based Access Overview

Updated 2026-04-25

How role-based access controls navigation, landing pages, and the actions a user can take.

NxtLayr uses role-based access to control what users can see, where they land, and what actions they can take.

Why role-based access matters

Role-based access is important because different users need different experiences. A Standard User should not see the same operational pages as a Super Admin or Onboarding user. At the same time, each user should still be able to reach the workflows relevant to their job.

What role-based access controls

Depending on configuration, role-based access can affect:

  • landing page
  • left navigation
  • visible screens
  • visible buttons and actions
  • workflow ownership and editing rights
  • approval access
  • read-only versus editable views

Common examples

Examples include:

  • Standard Users landing on My Support Home
  • Executive Viewers seeing read-only summary pages
  • Onboarding users seeing onboarding dashboards and discovery workflows
  • Org Admins seeing members, entitlements, and broader organization-level views

Best practice

Grant users the least access needed for their responsibilities. This improves clarity and reduces risk.
